The 2025 Youth Summer Workforce Development Apprenticeship Program at the African American Women Trucking Association Power Hub (Decatur, GA) was a powerful example of what happens when education, mentorship, and real-world experience come together.
Hosted onsite 2025 summer workforce initiative welcomed 8 youth participants from DeKalb County public schools and local colleges who were given the opportunity to learn, grow, and gain valuable professional and transferable skills in a hands-on business environment.
Throughout the program, students were exposed to key areas including social media marketing, operations, health and wellness, administrative support, and community engagement. They worked directly alongside AAWTA members and leadership, allowing them to experience real business operations and understand the importance of professionalism, teamwork, and service.
Participants developed strong workplace readiness skills such as time management, email management, communication, organization, customer service, leadership development, and professional etiquette. These are critical skills that extend beyond one industry and prepare students for success in any career pathway they choose.
The apprenticeship also included guest speakers and industry professionals who reinforced the importance of leadership, entrepreneurship, personal development, and career exposure. These sessions gave students direct access to professionals who shared real-life experiences, career advice, and motivation for future success.
This program was more than just summer participation—it was an investment in future leaders.
We are proud of each student who committed to learning, showed up ready to grow, and embraced the opportunity to build skills that will serve them for years to come.
Special thanks to our partners, mentors, guest speakers, and supporters who helped make this program possible. Your partnership and commitment to workforce development continue to help AAWTA create meaningful pathways for youth and strengthen the future of trucking, logistics, entrepreneurship, and community leadership.
Together, we are not just preparing students for jobs—we are preparing them for leadership.
